Blocked file types and Unacceptable Email Attachments

Q: Why did I receive this message? And why is there a WARNING?
A: You received this message because you were sent a file type that is on our restricted file list. The files are restricted because they can be executed inadvertently or they may contain a virus. You have the option to rename the file back to the original file type. Please click here to view a list of unacceptable e-mail attachments.   If you need instructions on how to rename your file, click here.

Q. I received an email that I am sending an unsafe attachment, what files are you rejecting?
A. ITS has implemented a policy defining unsafe e-mail attachments.

The following file types are blocked:
ade, adp, ani, app, asd, asf, asp, asx, b64, bas, bat, bhx, cer, chm, cmd, com, cpl, crt, csh, cur, dll, exe, fxp, hlp, hqx, hta, hto, ico, inf, ini, ins, isp, its, js, jse, jse?, ksh, lib, lnk, mad, maf, mag, mam, maq, mar, mas, mat, mau, mav, maw, mda, mdb, mde, mdt, mdw, mdz, mim, msc, msi, msp, mst, ocx, ops, pcd, pif, prf, prg, pst, rar, reg, scf, scr, sct, sh, shb, shs, sys, tmp, upx, url, uu, uue, vb, vbe, vbs, vcs, vsmacros, vss, vst, vsw, vxd, wmd, wms, wmz, ws, wsc, wsf, wsh, xxe, zip.

If you find a need to send any of these types please contact your local email administrator.

Q. Who altered my e-mail?
A. Your system administrator or ISP has installed a scanning program which modified your e-mail. If you are reading this website, it is because your message relayed through smtp.state.nc.us.

If you have concerns about the way your mail is processed, please send an email to access.denied at nc.gov.
