 About NCMail

Envisioned in 1994, electronic messaging was determined as required, strategic, and mission critical.  Over the ensuing years, strategies, policies, and direction were developed.

In February of 1998, the message store policy was approved and work on implementation began.  The then ISOCOR (now CriticalPath) product was chosen because of its compliance with the state architectural direction, the number of platforms supported and its modular design.

By September of 1998, NCMail rates were approved and the then ITS project has now evolved into one of North Carolina's most mission critical applications. During that time however, NCMail had challenges as it grew disproportionately to its budget and although initially mandated for all State agencies to join by July 1, 2000, in June 1999 that deadline was extended to July 1, 2002.

In February 2001, NCMail resolved to ensure stability to meet current and future challenges and requirements its customers would need.  The NCMail team has worked effectively to ensure that these goals were met.

To date, NCMail has over thirty thousand satisfied users with more joining daily. Thirty-four percent of our clients use both our messaging and scheduling service, and as more of our customers recognize the great value in being able to schedule colleagues and resources throughout the State, many more sign up for both.

Currently NCMail charges $2.50 for mail and $1.50 for calendar account per month with up to 30MB in disk storage for mail and $0.15 for each 5MB increment or part thereof above the 30MB base. ITS Billing Rates - NCMAIL

For our messaging service this would break down to $2.50 per user per month for spam filtering, virus protection, secure webmail, 24 x 7 service and a constantly improving rated uptime. At current message sending rates of just under eighteen million messages per month, that translates to just over $0.003 per message as a cost to our subscribers.

For our scheduling service this would break down to $1.50 per user per month with 2 years advanced scheduling and 6 months of historical scheduling information. This would also include the ability to schedule colleagues using NCMail with many advance features for ensuring privacy and resource sharing.
